If you left this world right now, what would people say about you? Would they say you undoubtedly left your mark on this world? I want you to think of someone right now that you admire, someone that you look up to. It could be anyone- a family member, a teacher, or even a celebrity; whoever that person may be, picture them in your mind. Now that you have them in your mind, what is the one thing you admire most about them? For me, my person is the world-famous boxer, Muhammad Ali. Ali is considered one of the greatest athletes of all time, and if you want my opinion, he IS the greatest of all time. What I admire most about Ali isn’t his physical strength, but rather his mental strength. He had one of the greatest mentalities and discipline of any athlete. One thing Muhammad Ali is remembered for is not just his wins, but his passion and his love for what he did. When I began adopting the mentality as Ali had, the gym became more than “just a chore,” it became a lifestyle for me. I stopped counting the reps and started making the reps count. I changed my nursing major over to a major that fueled my passion so that I could reach my purpose. I stopped listening to the limitations that others around me were throwing my way and started branching out and taking chances. If you had told me this time last year that I would finally be on the track of fueling my purpose, I would have laughed in your face. But that’s the thing about taking chances. Muhammad Ali once said, “We can’t be brave without fear.” The very thing that you are scared to do is the very thing that will fuel your purpose. Don’t be scared anymore. Stop living in fear. I have a tattoo of my favorite Red Hot Chili Pepper’s lyrics that say “choose not a life of limitation.” It is a constant reminder that the limitations around me don’t define what I am capable of. Who is anyone to tell you that the sky is the limit when there is an entire universe out there? Today, do something that you are passionate about, fuel your purpose, and live your life.
